  • Russian Gas Giant Ordered to Pay Ukraine $2.56 Bln Over Price Hikes

"Until the contracts between Gazprom and Nafrogaz are terminated in court, there is no risk to transit of gas via Ukraine", he added.

Gazprom deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev said on Saturday the group had begun proceedings at the same court to carry out the terminations.

On Wednesday, Naftogaz announced the final ruling of the Stockholm arbitration court in the case against Gazprom over the latter's failure to supply agreed volumes of gas for transit. As experts noted, the volumes of transit were included in the contract, however, there were no penalties in the documents and the Stockholm Arbitration established them independently.

"The arbitrators justified their decision by the sharp deterioration in the Ukrainian economy". The decision has violated the balance of interests of the parties under these contracts, the head of Gazprom said. Gazprom had said that the court rejected demands of Naftogaz to increase the tariff for gas transit from Russian Federation. Most of the Russian company's claims against Naftogaz relate to fines for insufficient withdrawal of gas by the Ukrainian side in accordance with the "take-or-pay" rule.

Trump praises NRA leaders: 'They love our country'
This time though, the speech was not just about guns and the Second Amendment. "They hate individual freedom". He said existing gun laws and regulations, if executed properly, would decrease instances of mass shootings.

The decision coincided with freezing temperatures all over Ukraine, and the government called on Friday for measures to reduce consumption.

It noted the tribunal rejected the appeal by Naftogaz to increase the gas transit tariff and amend the contract to comply with Ukrainian law, suggesting a negotiation would be on the table.

According to Medvedev, Gazprom returned funds to pay for gas supplies to Naftogaz in March 2018 due to a previously unannounced contractual agreement.

"The situation with gas supply has stabilized, we have sufficient gas [reserves] in underground storage facilities", Poroshenko said, an Ukrinform correspondent reports. What is unclear is how the transit deal will be affected by the row: Gazprom delivers some 80% of the approximately 110bcm of gas it sends to its Western European customers via the ironically named Druzhba, or "Friendship", pipeline that runs across Ukraine.
