On Thursday, the Iraqi authorities handed over four women and 27 children from IS families to Russian Federation, after being cleared of charges of involvement in terrorist operations against civilians or security forces, Iraqi Foreign Ministry said. One of them told the judge she had taken part in fighting against Iraqi forces alongside the jihadists, he said.

Hundreds of women and children have been detained in Iraq over alleged links to Isis since the Islamist group lost control of its final strongholds in the country previous year.

Human rights organizations and observers contend that the legal process in Iraq is not fair.

The Iraqi government declared its war against the group over in December. The suspects claimed to have been tricked into joining ISIS militants.
